Getting Rid of Mold

Summary: Mold is a nasty and dirty natural growth that can be found almost anywhere. If you would like to make sure that your home is free of any infestations of mold, then follow these simple steps.

Mold seems to grow just about everywhere, so why is it important that a person get rid of this natural growth? Quite simply the reason is because of health. If you do not take care of any potential mold outbreaks as soon as they start, then you are risking having problems with your and your family's health. Mold has been linked to health difficulties such as cancer, asthma, respiratory infections, sinus infections, headaches and well...the list does seem to go on and on. So what is the best way to get rid of these pernicious pests?

The first step to getting rid of mold infestations is to make sure that you know what type you are faced with, and exactly how much you have. You can purchase a test kit at practically all home improvement stores. Simply follow the directions as they are listed on the test kit, and you are ready to proceed to the next step.

Next, you are going to need to remove the source of the mold. This means that you are going to need to take some basic health precautions. Make sure that you wear a face or breath mask, and rubber gloves when you handle anything that could potentially be infected with mold, since you don't want to become ill from trying to clean your house. Moisture is the single largest contributor to any mold growth, so check for any leaks in the roof, walls or foundation of your home. If you find any, repair them immediately while in addition making sure that you have sealed your basement or concrete foundation slab with a deep penetrating concrete sealer, while also caulking any joints in the walls and pipes near plumbing fixtures. While you are checking your home for any infestation of mold, be sure that you check your HVAC ducts. If you find any in the ducts, then I would recommend having them cleaned by a professional.

The best way to get rid of any mold growth in a house is to use a fungicide cleaner to remove the growths from the surfaces in the home. This, as the name implies, is a form of herbicide that is specifically designed to be used against molds and fungus. After you have used this material, then you want to get an air purifier for use within the home, while also ensuring that you are not storing damp materials in your basement or under the house. If you follow these simple steps, then you are going to help ensure that your home is mold free, and healthier for you and your family.
