Choosing the Perfect Color Scheme

For many people, choosing the perfect color scheme for their home is a rather difficult task. Often, this task is made more difficult than it needs to be because people don't understand where they an actually get a color scheme from. While there are several ways that you can go about choosing the perfect color scheme, there are actually four methods that you can use which will ensure that you get the best possible color scheme for your needs.
- Start low. Often times, when people are thinking of the colors that they will use in the rooms of their homes, they will overlook the floors. By starting off with the floors in a particular room you can, for lack of a better term, work from the ground up. Take a look at different kinds rugs, and see if you can find one that you like. It doesn't matter if it is one solid color, a geometric pattern, or some other design, when you find a rug that you like you can use it for the inspiration for the rest of your color scheme. Many times a rug will have several different colors in it, and if you use those colors throughout your room, then you have chosen your color scheme.
- Be artistic. For those people that don't particularly like rugs, use a piece of art. Take note of the various colors that you have in that painting or art piece, and use that as the palette for the rest of your room.
- Use your favorite. Perhaps the simplest method of all for choosing the perfect color scheme is to use your favorite color. However, if you are going to use this method then there are a couple of things that you want to avoid. Do not use only that particular color for all of your decorating needs, since that can lead to a very overwhelming look. Rather, use various shades, or tones of the main color. This way you still have the main color that you love, and similar colors that can help accent the look you are going for.
- Experiment a little. When choosing the perfect color scheme, you will need to experiment. Take time to try out several things, and see which one works best for you. If at all possible, try using a combination of the different methods listed above. This way you can truly create a look that is all your own.
